sad story
although I heard that his footprints in the snow lead the search teams to the car and the rescue of his family
rip

The guy walked 8 miles in street clothes.
Damn.
The rescuers said they were wiped out after 1 mile.
Unbelievable. Very sad.

Not heard much about all of this... can anyone bring me up to speed? To be honest, I'd never heard of him apart from on Engadget last week...

Kim was a superhero to do what he did.

argh, so close to the lodge.

Brilliant. That really clears it up...

If only he'd gone the other direction when he left the car - toward the lodge.
I just watched that video again and I got teary eyed.
That man is a hero - please tell his family so:

the map explains the his path and the area.
yeah, if he'd gone the other direction... so sad.

I heard about it the first time last night, and got teary eyed when I saw the news.

It is really sad. Some of the clips on CNET when he tells how his kids love a particular gadget...very sad for kids to grow up without a Dad...
Don't they say you should always stay put when you are trapped like this? It's odd that such an obviously bright bloke would do something like he did...and leaving the road - just seems really odd.
I guess people do strange things when they are suffering from exposure.
The Australian mountain climber, Lincoln Hall, after being left for dead on Everest, was found sitting on the edge of a 10,000 foot cliff with no gloves, hat and he was taking off the rest of his protective clothing.
RIP James.

what you do for your family goes beyond understanding... this is such a sad story, i think many of us were actually hoping and praying he was found alive... and to think because of his footprints they found his family...
i guess he did what he set himself out to do, save his family.
incredible.
(sniff!)

i mean everyone's liek "oh he should have stayed" - what if the mom and kids were never found and the entire family died there - everyone would be saying "why didnt they go looking for help"
no way could anyone with kids say honestly they wouldnt try and go find help... here's to a great great dad
