Well, it's true...and it's not necessarily a bad thing, but at least be freaking honest about it..I mean the whole "rah rah bringing democracy to the a-rabs" schtick didn't fool anyone. At least not anyone not addicted to Fox News..

I remember around here during the whole purple thumb elections you would have thought there was a river of kool aid running thru the middle of the pvn.

Iraq is and will continue to be a clusterfuck of gigantic proportions. I just hope it doesn't spread into a regional war, but at this rate it probably will...the Middle East will be smoldering for a long time..and you know what, for the sake of American interests there, I'd take the Tyrants over the Anarchy any day of the week.

US:"'yea, Saddams out! now what?!let go to starbucks, YEEAA!!"

Thisi wiki article discusses early motivations for going into Iraq:

By the way, despite whatever is in that fancy pants study group report, Iraq is lost. It's over. Toast. Ka-put. Done. It's all managing the chaos from this point on and trying to come out with a bloody rose stinking of sweat and defeat, and since Bush likes to live in his little fantasy bubble, this shit's going to get worse b4 it gets anything approaching better.
Oh, and Afghanistan is a mess, unless you consider record opium crops and ripping apart school teachers alive for teaching little girls algebra as a symbol of victory and democracy.

Occupation never has and never will work. Don't care which Empire you are.
Although, if any thinks they can stop the US, at this point in time, from doing what it feels it see's fit, I invite them to try and do so.
Good luck with that endeavor.

I think the window/political capital for the US being able to do what it wants without serious international pressure coming to bear is just about up. You're about to see a return to the "great powers" era and you;re going to see some funky allies joining up to counterbalance the US power. We already lost alot of our soft power (thanks George), our military options are shot at the moment...the fact that we have the that huge ass debt out there helps, as everyone's financial health is dependent on us and they have to deal with dollars as currency of international trade (for the time being)...but China is just bidding it's time...tick tick tick...it's been my contention from day one that Bush has screwed up far, far larger than is even visible right now, Iraq is a mere pimple on the ass of general fuckupidtry that he will be seen historically as being the center of...
All that said, the sooner the US goes back to being a regional power and not a world dominating one, the sooner we get our democracy back and not this half baked psuedo-oligarchy of corporate interests..

Ten years from now, Bush will ONLY be remember for being the 9-11 president.
Can anyone remember anything that Clinton did off the top of their head?
Shit goes a lot deeper than just what Bushie did in the last 7.

*second guesses statement
on second thought, TheBlueOne has a lot of good points.

"Can anyone remember anything that Clinton did off the top of their head?"
NAFTA, NAFTA, NAFTA. That and got rid of the deficit.
"Shit goes a lot deeper than just what Bushie did in the last 7."
Agreed, but it's like Bush was on an accelerated course...like on meth bender...he condensed the probable path of American imperial overstretch into five years what shoulda taken two or three decades...

(Dec 6 06, 18:04)Has hell just frozen over?
You know, I get pegged as a liberal on the PVN all the time, and I'm really not, at least not in International affairs. I'm a pretty hardcore "realist" and my whole beef with Bushies since 9-11 has been their innate radical foreign policy, with little basis in reality.
On the domestic side, I don't really care about guns or abortion too much as dividing issues, and I like God kept away from my government - but how does that stand exactly make me a liberal I don't quite understand. I also do think government regulation is neccessary to a certain degree to keep the "fair" in "free and fair markets" - like for example I see big problems with the monopoly in the broadcast industry, don't like this whole corporate extension of copyright (innovation and business models based on through legal loopholes leads an economy down the shitter in my mind) and would really like to see the education system improved..but then again how does this peg me as a liberal? No one in america is a freaking liberal, compared to your average European or Venuzuelan...this whole liberal vs. conservative crap is a horse and pony show trotted out by the corporate interests to keep us plebes arguing about putting ten commandments on public buildings and wondering who got peggy sue pregnant...smoke and mirrors, bread and circuses..same shit, different millenium..
- mpfree0
haha Horse and Pony show.
Lolz, love that. SO FUCKING TRUE.
They're beating a dead horse.

this won't solve anything. it is just a coverup to keep us there longer and more killing. baker works for the carlisle group and this whole thing just stinks. it is in the press so we don't get all antsy about impeaching the bastids in power.
the language was so vague about a "redeployment" in first quarter 08. stinky.
the embassy that is being constructed in iraq is as big as the death star. think we're leaving soon? yeah right. too much money is to be made.
beware the ides of march. this ship is going down.
sorry. but this just stinks.
- jaylarson0
