My boss approved a hardware upgrade.. can you guys recommend a good model? I never used a tablet longer than for a few hours, so don't really know much about them.

Get the intuos version rather than the graphire. There's more pressure sensitivity. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-…

Just head into a store and feel out the different sizes for youself.
Also, it depends a bit on your work. I prefer an a4 though half of my workmates can't sit on anything bigger then a5;
I do some occational photobrushups while my buddies mainly sees the board as a mouse-alternative.

...maybe worth to mention: I've had my personal one, intous 1, since 99. It has turned from gray to that...pc yellow...but still works like a charm. Cracked open on one side.
What I'm trying to say is, if you/mr boss is on a budget, don't worry about getting earlier versions for cheaper. They all work pretty well.

Enter response: I'd definitly go with the 6x8 or 6x11(widescreen) model. Most of the artists at my work use the same, good size but with easy response... buy too large and you'll have to wave your hand around a lot to get anything done... just mho.

I am not sure if the company policy would even allow to buy something used. What I'm worried about is I keep hearing tablets quality went down with newer models.

Traiven,
You can change that in the settings, wether or not you want the whole board to represent your screen.

Uhm, didn't specifically mean my 8 year old used one. But, say, intous 2.
I'm not sure if the quality has gone down, but in my opinion the newer models offer, well, not much new.

Don't buy an Intuos3 just for the ExpressKeys (buttons on left and right sides). I thought I couldn't live without them until I got a tablet that has them – they are a pain in the ass. Switched off from the 3rd day.
