I need to make an flash animation for DVD that will be played on a tv or a computer.
What resolution should this be?
I've notived in the past that what looks good for a tv doesn't look so hot when played on a computer.
thanks.

704 × 480 (NTSC)
704 × 576 (PAL)

don't know much about video...which one should I use?
also is there a good program out there to convert flash to dvd or flash to another video format.
thanks!

FCP or iMovie
also are you doing it for high-def or standard?
- dbloc0
probably both...It's getting sent out to clients, so whatever they choose to play it on...

so I guess I just have to pick a happy medium for it to look good on most tvs or monitors.
1024x768 ?

or
1280 × 720

once the program begins making the dvd it will choose it's own native encoding resolution, it would be in your best interest to make sure you design for the same resolution to avoid any smushing or smashing of your video. say like a tv pulled widescreen or vice versa

well were not going to worry about wide screen. I'm not really sure what program were going to use to convert it, we'll send it out if we can't find a program to do it correctly. I'm just trying to figure out a starting point as far as resolution.

we are rendering an animation for wide screen right now at 864x486
PS gives you a break down when you make a new file.

looks like I should probably go with 1280 x 720 to look best on tv and computer?
any flash to video gurus out there?
- blastofv0
any reason why you don't just export the movie out of Flash in .mov format?
- dbloc0
I'll definitely be doing that, I'm just trying figure out the best resolution for the images to look crisp on tv and on a computer when it is converted to video and then to dvd.

I have been doing something similar and am having trouble with the resolution and exporting. It will be useful to know how this is resolved.

I guess another way to ask the question would be...
To the video guys...
If you were setting up an image to bring into after effects to use for output to dvd to be played on a tv or a computer what size would that image be? and what is your stage size in after effects?
Don't know much about AE either, but it seems logical.
