if you have an older mac you can use the migration manager, you will need a firewire to firewire cable from memory tho...

yeh - someone else told me that but the only stuff i can find is about migrating from px to mac or old osx server to new?
also how old does old mean? 15" PBook 1.25MgHz old enough?

If you use .Mac synchronization and IMAP email you dont have to copy email across.. it synchs across all your Macs... Same with iCal, Safari bookmarks, keychain passwords, etc.
but if you dont have that, you can grab the Library Mail folder and stuff...
Most apps are copyable, but its usually better to reinstall and just copy settings as needed...

sorry I was meaning "old" as in your "old" mac 1.25 PB will be sweet,
from memory your "new" mac asks weather or not your upgrading from another "old" mac or starting new and goes from there

Migration Assistant
Easily migrate from an old Mac to a new system any time using the Migration Assistant.

when you start up your new mac it asks if you had an old one.
plug in a firewire from your old to the new and it imports what you wish!

that worked a treat! Even right fonts activated un all! D.

i heard that there are some problems with their migration assistant. i decided to do clean install everything. and copy the mail file and preference over. i think my computer is cleaner and faster. no crap anymore.

original apple osx install: 18GB
my reinstall: 2GB (3 GB after updates)
- tkmeister0
what?
how did you do that?
- popatheart0
Yeah, sorry. No easy way to do it. mac does have built in software to copy your personal files and settings. But the software will need to be reinstalled.

what?
how did you do that?

(Nov 27 06, 07:12)me or him?
me, I just chose what I wanted in the system, no garage band, idvd, imovie, games, software demos and stuff.. as you said, it runs smoother, as if it just had taken a huge dump..
- tkmeister0
maybe i should do that... i don't need a lot of those crap software. can't i just remove them after? i am too lazy to start all over now after spending a week installing and setting up mine...
- rafalski0
if it runs ok, why bother? There is some crap in certain places you can easily get rid of though, or reinstall when needed:
