- e-pill0
hrm...senior designers in my end of the industry make more than triple that number and salaries look like they are rising as well...relativly speaking with experience and negotiating skills...
but is 90k in HK considdered bad or is it a nice salary to have??
- mog0
Sorry e-pill actually it doesn't say senior designer but compared to all the other salaries it is by far the highest check out the link below in PBS
(how much do designers make)also
Hong Kong has one of the world's lowest income tax rates, with only about 2% of the working population paying the maximum rate of 15%.

and check out the difference between new england AD's and those in rocky mountain states.

Cost of living is less but still that is not too good at all. Time to learn Chinese? haha

Don't know where you heard that - it's total bollocks. And the cost of living in HK is ridiculous!
- chossy0
if it is true it's probably cause they are the most talented designers or artists in the world.

hahaha.. yeah and 71K in India.
read the chart title again:
"relative salaries equalized via the PPP Big Mac Index"

lol 90K in HKD not that much $$
Foregin Companies in HK do pay more then the local firms, plus better benefits.
Notice lots of my friends love to work in Thailand, relax, beach, ocean. enjoy!

makes sense now!
it's all relative but if the cost of living in HK is high then it actually doesn't make sense.
I was saying in the other post hat the cost of living in Mountain states is lower than NE so in that respect it makes sense about the salary diffs.
Now I know how to measure things in hamburgers and lattes though ;)

if its 90k USD, then it is alot, compared to earning 40k in the US.
the only expensive thing in HK is rent (or if you like eating alot of western food all of the time). and if you can get your company to also look after accomodation. then you're even better off.
that said, i'm not getting that much in HK and I'm still alot better off than working in australia for boeing.

A senior designer would not earn 90k USD a year in Hong Kong.

India has some of the worst designers in the world. i can't say much more for Hong Kong. It's a matter of a lack of talent.

In London the cost of living is also high but the main difference is that half the public services are running on a pretty poor level and you never get enough value for your pound.
It's easy to earn but not so easy to save since the Government is so imaginative in getting tax off you.
You're better off working in London, getting that extra few % for London weighting and sending that cash back home where you've got a villa with a swimming pool, considerate tax rates and better quality of live – albeit in another country.
