I've got 'er old album, but not on this computer.
She's playing in London in Spring, I may go see her - though I'm unsure if I could tolerate her high-pitched warbling for a full two hours, much as I like her.

Ys is an incredible piece of work.. hard to imagine writing that kinda stuff at her age.
Buy it and you won't be disappointed. I'm sure Drag City needs the sales.

Yes, Walnut Whales & Yarn and Glue; Milk-Eyed Mender are both good, parlour-esque.
But her latest, Y's in my view is brilliant. Not to everyone's liking I'm sure but nonetheless, a 5-track allergorical journey through a slightly [indirectly] autobiographic Newsom. I've been listening to this non-stop and always hearing new things in it. Check out the lyrics too:
"That the meteorite is a source of the light
And the meteor's just what we see
And the meteoroid is a stone that's devoid of the fire that propelled it to thee...""In the trough of the waves
Which are pawing like dogs
Pitch we, pale-faced and grave,
As I write in my log"As you can see, this doesn't fit into any particular genre, neither folk, or pop, or parlour or anything... just pure Joanna Newsom.

I ruined a party earlier this year by drunkenly insisting I be allowed to put her on, from my mp3 player.
Then some cool people came in, commented snidely on the music, then walked out.
I fell asleep on the floor, full of contentment.
I'm not a big fan of the host.

i cant see why this kind of music won't do so well at a party. seriously.

(Nov 20 06, 10:11)! oh wow i didn't know that...
explains why Ys sounds SOOOOOO tight.

erm, it's distinctly incompatible with class A drug consumption.
it's kind of like cramming a bundle of cats into a cage, then wedging a toothpick between the highest two notes on your electronic organ.

fantastic! thank you!
