Live Trace Q's -- Illustrator

I'm having issues because I am barely a novice when it comes to using Illustrator.
How does one crop, or, rather split a Live Traced vector image?
Do I use the Split or Scissors options? And if so, how?
The sitch:
I have two crests I created that need to be split into two individual files and there seems to be no clear way of doing this.Thanks so much.

if you expand the live trace object (object> expand appearance) you can then edit to your hearts desire

That will allow me to split a vectorized image directly in half? Even with empty space inbetween?

yeah expand appearance and then either cut it or scissor it.
