can i use trebuchet as a web font?
it's standard on windows and mac i think?

Over 90% on both, go for it. (But it's got a really ugly lowercase 'g'.)

cheers, i'm just really sick of arial.
any other sans serif web reccommendations?

what about tahoma? Is that on both?

See, I kinda like that Trebuchet lower case "g", although trebuchet is kinda getting stale to me as well. I hate Tahoma. Verdaan almost looks fresh to me again with all the Web 2.0 use of arial and trebuchet...Lucicda Grande is also nice...
Typograpica, what kind of penetration do you think those new MS Vista system fonts will get, as some of them are rather nice...

I use tahoma quite a bit and never had a problem esp with font-family: and multiple values for degrading gracefully.
typographica where did you get that stat from?

http://typetester.maratz.com/ suggests Arial Narrow isn't a Windows default font. I have installed many versions of Windows and I'd say it had been there for years. Not that it's extremely usable, but looks interesting with letter-spacing: 1px.
Lucida Grande is grand, but like many OSX fonts, doesn't seem to be optimized for non-smoothed display.
I still can't get over osx's bad kerning in general with smoothing off.
On the other hand, some of Vista fonts seem to override cleartype and look pixel-sharp in certain sizes - I never saw it in XP.

I really hope enough people ge tthose Vista fonts on their systems...I would love to have them in the old web toolbox...in some sites I do I already call them out as a first choice in the CSS just in case anytone has them before getting into the usual Arial, Helvetica, etc...

Blue - Depends on how many people migrate to Vista. (AKA OS X 1.3) I don't know enough about Windows upgrade trends to make a prediction.

http://www.codestyle.org/css/fon…My favorite screen font right now is Lucida Grande (Sans on Windows). Unfortunately it's not nearly as ubiquitous and OS X lacks an italic. Silly Apple.
Verdana and Georgia are still the best bets.

It's wierd. I seem to have loads of Lucidas on on my Mac (like, Lucida Bright, Fax, Grande, Handwriting...) are these Mac standard? I don't remember installing them.
