hey guyys -
i have a rebel xt, and was looking to upgrade the lens to something better (faster really) for under $400. Can anyone recommend a good lens??

The Canon 50 mm 1.8 goes for around 100$. Its fixed but is really sharp and good glass.

the 85mm 1.8 is the best lens for the money I think. It's super sharp and decently quick.

the problem with Canon lenses is taht you pay $$ extra for name alone.

yeah, i need this for fairly low-ligth conditions - as i do some weddings. What would be best for fast/lowlight shots?
Thanks again..

lenses with low f stops like the 50 mm 1.8 or the 85mm 1.8 mentioned above.

If you don't need something really wide, look at the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 XR
I have it and find that it's usable wide-open. It's around $300 and really a super value.
here's some reviews: http://www.fredmiranda.com/revie…

(Oct 18 06, 18:02)You pay for the name I agree..
but most important you are paying for a better lens

as always "better" is a relative word combo of many factors. Personaly i don't think Canon lens's "betterness" if any is worth the extra money.

find a few lenses that you can afford and are in the focal range that you are after and compare the two here...

its easy to find out which lenses are better than other lenses, in the link i posted it demonstrates how a tamrom lens that is half the price of a canon L lens is better. From having used both these lenses I can back up this sites findings.
Hope it helps.
