Terrible cast IMHO - but it's spielberg and eastwood, and a great topic. Hope there is more cinematics around the fighting than anything else...

Saving Private Ryan 2

Yeah, the cast doesn't include anyone I would prefer. Maybe Jamie Bell.
Anyway, it still looks promising.

With all the interesting conflicts going on around the planet at the moment, why do all the big money guys bring out the Nazis and Imperial Japanese as the cinema enemy...it's nostalga for simpler times and not really interesting or vital art...

Sweet fuckin christ, I am tired of WWII movies. I get it. The war basically saved western civilization and prevented a major front of tyranny from spreading across the globe. Move on.Do we really need more of these "love letters or poems to our valiant fathers and grandfathers?"
And shame on Eastwood for getting that melodramatic preachy assclown Paul Haggis to do the rewrite. I have never wanted to punch a screenwriter.
Until now. Serves him right to have a last name that's a hominym for the foulest meat product ever. And while I'm spitting venom and being obnoxious, fuck Speilberg too. We're all tired of these of these self-serving pseudo historical junkets that serve up precious moralism on a silver platter.
There. I feel better now.
Bartender, fill my glass.

But isn't this extremely timely? The power of propaganda to sell a war?

hmmm... i agree WW2 movies give you the same feel. but this is about the marines, they dont have to many movies about marines and WW2. my 2¢ i love these things so im watchin it

I fucking love war movies and I can't wait for this one. Who cares about the cast, they all get shot in the end.
Don't tell my you weren't happy when Vin Diesel got tagged by the sniper in Shaving Ryans privates!

I'm not too into war films but then again I don't have a specific genre I prefer...just if the film is good or not.
The first thing I thought about was cinemotography, for some reason...I guess because the last war film I saw was A Very Long Engagement (and that was romance / adventure too).

Some of the responses here make me sad. Prety soon there will be no surviving veterans from WWII. Nobody left to tell their first hand accounts of the fucking hell they went through to keep us all from Nazi rule.
It's a good reminder - about War, about History - about Us as people...

Eh, to be honest the whole "Greatest Generation" title kind of pissed me off ever since I was little.

Ha i had an uncle who was in the Wehrmacht, he was in it right from the beginning, invasion of Poland, France, went all the way to the Isle of Jersey in the channel and then got sent to the eastern front where he got bagged in Rumania and was sent to load ships in Odessa and then to chop wood for a couple of years in Siberia.
We kept begging him to write some of this stuff down or at least tell it to us, but he kept insisting that history 'is written by the winners' and nobody cares about what he had to say.Yeah it's sad to see that generation go, but these movies are nothing but a twisted third-hand account of what supposedly happened, shaped to fit the political aims of the filmmaker/studio and packaged to appeal to a people that can't pay attention to anything for more than 2 hours.

Well said greedo!
Oh, some of the movie was shot up here.. They fucked up a good chunk of the countryside doing it and forgot to clean up after them too. The makers can go fuck em selfs..
- harlequino0
Hey eveyone deserves to tell their story. I have faimly who fought and died, and who I never knew, just as much as the next guy.
I'm just really tired of having easy moralism and history stlyized and spoonfed to me; and then being accused of being unpatriotic or disrespectful for saying so. Particularly when the movie comes from lame writers.
I just wish there was more out there addressing the pisspoor treatment many soldiers received and still receive after the war. I guess I'm just not interested in battle stories. I'm more interested in how the battlefield affects someone the rest of their life.
- Jaline0
Okay, I actually do agree with Greedo. It's sad how history is all about the winners.
Well said, Greedo.

(Oct 17 06, 08:53)is that why they made the 'indian' true to the character and made him an alcoholic who hated the fact of being on display?
and 'shaped to fit the political aims of the flimmaker/studio'. i like that.
it works well in these movies.
