Anyone have any information and/or suggestions as to what makes the NY Times different from other papers in terms of design and layout?
Thanks :)

your talking about the printed paper, not the website, right?
I heard they use the water from hot dog vendors as ink.

the printed one, yes.

- its very traditional in article placement, typography and layout styles. i'd say the NYT is at one end of the spectrum, while usa today is on the other in this sense
- they don't run a lot of breakout information
- pictures don't have a border (the papers i worked at always had to have one because of registration issues)
- peter buchanan-smith used to art direct the op-ed page

Hard news uses justified columns, while "soft" news and opinion gets ragged right.

It's long and hard to read on a subway. Gimmie the NY Post.
But it is a beautiful newspaper.

(Oct 13 06, 07:58)I agree! And thanks everyone, you've been very helpful. I have to write a report about certain articles so this will help me along once I get my stuff organized...
