I just entered some key combo that should work in photoshop and ox s pushed me into a completely black screen! no key combo that I tried could get me out of it... for christs sake, i had to ssh into my own damn laptop to kill it. goddamn apple. screw you.

This sounds like an Expose issue. Happened to me a lot until i figured out that i can disable all of it.

well if you're on a laptop its possible you just accidentally hit the brightness contrast key and turned off tall of the brightness thus leaving the screen balck.

Another thing to look out for is some combo like cmd+shift+opt+apple+8 inverts the color for accessibility something or other. You can do it from the accessibility preference pane as well. that was my first thought.

turns out it was a key combo to play a damn slideshow out of some spotlight search results. there was only 1 item so it opened the slideshow and didn't have the controls for the thing, so i was stuck with no way out. still... damn you apple, damn you.
