ok, so i just found out the wedding i have to go to this weekend is actually a black-tie event.
now, i just don't feel like buying or renting a tux. is wearing a nice black suit acceptable? i think i remember seeing some guys wearing suit on the last b-tie event i went to.

//you guys wont even wear suits to interviews, who cares?

IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW CLOSE ARE YOU TO THE PEOPLE THAT ARE GETTING MARRIED

I dunno, I think insisting that people spend money on an outfit for your wedding after you've hit them up for a wedding-shower gift, then possibly the bachellor party.. it's all just too much.
Just go with a nice black suit and black tie. What are they going to do? Kick you out? The worst that can happen is that you could stick out like a sore thumb cause you're not in a tux.... where's the wedding? that matters too.

dude, i know!
i don't even wear a suit to interviews.
actually, the place i rent the last time will put money i spent on toward a new purchase. so i am getting a deal if i buy a tux.
but i think i am gonna get a nice black suit so i can wear it to different events and more practical.

(Oct 10 06, 13:46)all that makes up (almost) for the $50 - 75 plus you spent per plate for the open bar at the wedding. Not including the candy tray.
:(

i think the main difference btwn a traditional tux and suit is mostly the satin on the pant leg, the lapels and pockets - go for the suit, and wear it more than once/twice a year.

I think people just do that so guests dont show up in t-shirts and jeans.

I would wear a dark suit

The tux t-shirt always screams class.
But I think a black suit is acceptable. Most likely, you'll see guys wearing navy suits and laugh. No one will notice you.
But wear a simple solid color tie with it so it looks like a tux.

technically, black tie means formal, period. formal means tux, military formal wear or traditional formal dress depending on your culture.
you can choose to do that or not...it's up to you!
