Who isn't using this font?
I'm looking at all the packaged stuff that comes with the ads for my catalog and for almost every vendor there are bet 2-8 variations of this font in the fonts folder.
Is this the new look of the season?

well the helvetica neue memo was sent out and latched onto some years ago (long before even the Avant Garde Gothis memo) so that might explain that.
Is this honestly the first time you've noticed the torrential output of HN set print work?

nah, but I'm taking notice since I'm installing fonts that they r sending me with their packaged art *heh.
I thought I would see a variety of fonts being used.
I guess there is no creativity where there is corporatism.

I think it gets used a lot cos if you need a clean neutral sans, most agencies/clients aren't going to be able to justify shelling out for something new from a foundry, losing that cost off the budget and maybe not using again for much.
Its just a really reliable, can't go wrong typeface in that context.

lets face it most (if not all) corporate work is entirely timescale/budget based stuff. Helv N has piles of face wieghts, its easy to get by marketing because thay fear change and newness and you pay for it once, use it a gazzillion times and the purse strings are happy. QED

i met them oneday at hillhead and told him i kinda knew you... he said you need a kick up the arse.

Helv Neue is certainly good times, but in my opinion anything that can be set in that face could also be set in Gotham and look a fair bit friendlier...just my opinion though.
And while on the topic of the deal with the "2" in Akzidenz? That curly fry has been giving me grief since 'Nam. Plus Akzidenz is fairly useless in anything else but caps. Akkurat (Lineto) needs to replace it worldwide and call it a day.
