I was walking past an EBgames in Brooklyn this morning and saw a croud of 40 people, at least. I had no idea why.
I guess this is why.

I pre-ordered one today at EB (thanks digg.com)...
The dude at the counter told me the $499.00 version doesn't support HDMI, is this true, cuz i have read different... Quick poll... Did you go high end or low end?
High End Model - 1
Low End - ?

I got the Premium joint.
So joyride, I have to now be the first of the eight at that store to ensure I get it?
That's bogus, what was the point of pre-ordering it, haha.
I hate lines.
- joyride0
yeah, normally that is how it works. You might be able to sell your preorder for a profit... as long as it's transfurable. I would guess you could sell it for $200 at least

SHIT'S WIZZEAK!

XBOX360 > PS3

"A $100 deposit is required for each order, but even that won’t guarantee that a PlayStation 3 will be available when the console goes on sale on Nov. 17, according to the notices, because the stores have no control over production and shipping issues."
so then you are $100 to reserve what? a place in a line? you still have to show up earlier than the other geeks! you might as well go plop you ass in front of the store right now and wait.
ps3 overpriced and most likely overrated. sure the graphics will be sick but who care? really.
xbox360 overrated. for my money, i'll take my psp anyday. at least i can take it outside or take it with me when i am going to interact with real, live people.

Fuck that, I went back down to investigate.
He informed me that the store got 16, however, the max number the store employees could get were 8.
So 8 store employees are getting it.
Which meant they had 8 to give out.
Which in turns means that only 16 will be shipped, and if any less than that show up, then the order of people picking them up will take place (and employees do no get preferential treatment in this case [we both had a good laugh on that one]).
The store WILL NOT be open to the public despite morons probably camping out anyway ... there will be no more than 16 arriving at the store.
The 16 people will be called 24 hours beforehand to be told where they go to get the system and must have Picture ID/Receipt present.
He thinks it's literally going to be at 12:00AM the day of, and that people will be given directions how to access the store not thru the front.
Mystery over.

I'm getting a Nintendo. 7 million units by the end of the year, no eBay poaching, no fake hype about selling out (if you only give stores 3 to sell, of course they'll sell out). just good old fashioned fun.
Have a good time replacing your DVD collection and buying a new TV to take advantage of the hundreds you're paying for HD. In 5 years we'll thank you for bringing the price down.

(Oct 10 06, 11:09)The guy's talking shit. Both models come with HDMI outputs. The only things the 60GB has that the 20GB doesn't is a larger HD, Compact Flash/Memory Stick slot and built-in Wi-Fi.

I'd definitely go high-end, no question.
It's a shame so many people are knocking the PS3. Seems to me like people just don't seem to understand what they're getting for the money. Blu-Ray DVD players are still on the market for $1000. The PS3 IS a Blu-Ray DVD player and a shit-hot games console too, all for $599.
I say quit moaning and get an XBox/Wii if you're that bothered about price. Stop bad-mouthing cause nobody really cares what your views are..

So what if the Spiderman3 is a Blu-Ray player? There's no consumer demand for Blu-Ray, and Sony has an abysmal record when it comes to pushing formats. Beta, minidisc, that mp3-like format they tried, the memory cards they stuck readers in everything for, UMDs... Not that there's any demand for HD-DVD either, but Blu-Ray is hardly a good enough reason.

Blu-Ray may not win out with HD-DVD (okay won't like 80-100%, haha), but the fact that Blu-Ray will still work and has the added advantage of humongous disc space ... the possibility for some games to actually use it all in the future with the PS3 processor is another feather in its cap.
And yes, PS3's are already over 1,500$ on eBay.
:D

the boss of our 6 person user interface team just bought us an xbox 360 for the creative room.
played it a bit yesterday and i think i'm hooked. it really is a great machine. the ps3 is really going to have to blow my doors off to get me to buy one after this.
- flavorful0
Well the manufacturing doors are going to have to blow its door's off first, before it can blow off yours I believe, haha.
I don't think the 2nd wave is hitting until 2007.
- joyride0
you bastard!!! I'm still working on getting mine. I've got a good plan in theory to get one. We'll see if it works out.
The ebay thing is funny, people are selling their preOrder for a ton of money. But the thing is they're not for sure getting one on the 17th. Make sure you've got time to stand in line that night. I'm sure they will open at 12 AM

what's a PS3?
