I've tried shooting green screen a number of times. Each time the screen and subject were well lit but the results were not very good. Does anyone know an online tutorial with hints at how to get a good separation between the subject and background?

what about the distance between the screen and the object of interest?

did you see that one?

What issues are you having.
It might not be the filming but the chroma keying

I think I'm still drunk and high from last night. let's try again...
What kind of setup are you using? and what's specifically wrong with your key?

DV sucks for green screen. If you can, use a betacam or some other analog cam
- Mimio0
Yep, a lot of people still swear by Beta SP for this kind of stuff it has a wider Chroma for pulling a key.

my my my, lots to think of here.
could you go online onto ichat or something like that and I could run you through the process if you like what system are you using?. Also what kind of material have you shot as you may have to change a couple of settings on mr camera aswell. :D
Drop me an email and I will help you out.

I would like to point out that using beta sp is not good advice.
Possibly you are confused with 'digi beta' which is the best format along with HDCAM to use for keying, the reason DV sucks for keying is due to the fact that it is a highly compressed format and as soon as you aply grading to it or try to key it then your compression shows up like a mummy lover. Although you just have to live with what you have available I suppose. Today I filmed myself and two other workmates dancing infront of some green screen so I can create a nice silloette and colorise it for use in a GFX piece I am doing. So I crancked my shutter speed right up on the camera so I could get good crisp clear edges around fingers and arms as they waved. I will post up my results possibly later on this evening to show you how I got on.

Yep, my mistake I meant digibeta. Beta SP is probably only good for TV.

I used to send adverts out on beta SP, I now only send out digis for TV programs, I also often use a format called D1 which is again better than digi but slightly impractical as the tapes if you go above say 20 minutes are about the size of a 24 inch cinema display or whatever. I'm quite interested to find out how much TV stuff people on NT actually do as I am an editor and don't really see much of the TV side of things on NT. :D
