whoa... thanks dudes! I've heard of The Factory in dundee when i studied up there wee while ago. Some students up there couldnt stop talk about it.
"those suggestions about youtube are a great idea. you should start a video diary of "25 year old learning to skate for the first time ever". it could become HUGE!

To answer your question _salisae_ I used to be on this as kidswift though I can't find any of my old posts. But been away from this all for a while. Born UK raised in New Zealand living in San Fran and now back in London and set up a company....... The rest is up to your imagination!

at the original skate factory on erskine street in dundee. one weekend clan skates came through and deathbox skateboards too and there was a huge competition. someone had went to a scrapyard and bought 2 cars. flyovers were put at either side of the cars.
was awesome.
the cars got so trashed.every teen skaters dream that place. it was illegal place back then. it was all in an abandoned warehouse. you had to climb over the roof to get in when no one was there to open the massive gates/doors.

i keep meaning to 'youtube' all the video footage ive got from back then.

emptyempty - go forth and skate my friend. find a nice big, smooth, empty parking lot and just get used to rolling, turning, going fast. learn to ollie onto a curb before even beginning to try kickfilps... PLEASE! Get the basics down first and go from there. Pretty soon you'll know the beauty that is skateboarding. You'll hear the music of wheels clicking along sidewalks.

as an old schooler i feel like most boards out there these days are quite similar. difference being the angle of the nose and tail. the board i currently have has the exact same concave on nose and tail. that way there is no front or back. definitely get some good trucks. i assume the brand "Independent" still rocks. Tell your local skate shop what you're up to and they can suggest wheels (or anything else for that matter - skateshop folks are your friends). Have fun!

i hate to say it but i think longboards are kinda dumb.
granted i have not ridden one but they just seem kinda lack-luster. ain't no olliing those big ass things.
