I have a client that has been using Frutiger as their corp font, but its not a very well established ID so I think I have some room to play with it.
I see Linotype has recently released a "Frutiger Next".. but I don't know if it's any much different.. the changes appear to be extremely subtle.

Any other suggestions to upgrade Frutiger to something very similar but more contemporary?

Frutiger Next is better, but I think Frutiger is very bland overall and you are right to want something different.
The best contemporary Frutiger is Myriad. But you don't want to mimic Apple.
Others:
FF Transit

ha go figure.. i never made the connection between Frutiger and Myriad. you're right it would end up looking too Apple.
that said i really like your suggestion "Milo". That lowercase "a" is very nice.
Would be a noticable change for them, but that's probably a good thing.
thanks TypoG.

(Sep 29 06, 10:22)snoooooze. Get over it, many fonts look similar. There's only so many ways to present the alphebet that doesn't look like crap.

I downloaded a sample free Milo
but the Fontbook can't open them. They have extensions
.afm/.pfm/.pfb/.infAH..... what does that mean
....are they PC?
- Crouwel0
yes.
- Jaline0
Photoshop or something.
I usually put them in here:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts
- Jaline0
There is a MAC format as well....

Milo is nice, I like it a lot!
- aliceblue0
jaline I was able to download Milo for mac just by clicking on "click here to download if it doesn't start automatically"
But couldn't do it for the other 2 free fonts.
This is typical of my day of being so stupid!
