Sorry to ask another boring apple question but:
I currentlyy have a 733mhz G4 power mac with 1gb ram and am looking at getting a new 24"imac. I generally use PS and illy at the same time. My question is:
Will i notice the lack of speed using rosetta or (as my g4 is old) won't?
(i've looked on other forums but everyone geeks out, talking aboiut speed tests etc anyone out there changed to a 24 or similar and have real life knowledge?
Much appreciated.

you will be fine, but make sure you load it up with RAM. 1.5GB+

I'll let you know right now: you will be fine, but make sure you load it up with RAM. 1.5GB+

I've heard it'll be fine. But make sure you load it with RAM. Say, 1.5GB+

sounds about right to me.
in all seriousness, that is the machine I am writing this post on, and it was rubbish till I put 1.5G extra ram in it.
Now I am fine.

Sorry – YOU WILL NOT BE 'FINE'! Rosetta is not only slow but crashes applications like there's no tomorrow. PLEASE keep your G4 until CS3 comes out, your blood will boil (kinda like mine does now!).
HEED THE WARNING!

but I'm fine. I currently have PS and Illy open, multiple files, also running textedit, firefox, itunes and preview. working fine.

Hello kelpie, just out of interest what size files do you use?
mine are usually around the 40-50mb ish

Is the srenn on the 24" iMac HD? like the 23" and 30" apple screens?
- kelpie0
not that size, but sometimes pretty large. You'll probably still have problems if you are working on monster 300 layer print illustrations n shit...

i'm running a 20" with 2gb ram and it's as smooth as. I'm a ps layer fiend too.
don't see what the problem is.

I also have a 20" with 2gb ram and I constantly run PS, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver, TextMate, AfterEffects, iTunes, Studiometry, and a bunch of other sh*t and have experienced no problems whatsoever. I upgraded from a Quicksilver G4, running on 1.5gb ram at 1.33ghz. The iMac is much faster, Rosetta and all.
My only complaint... The 24" is available now and I have to sell my 20" and get one of those. It's noticeably faster than the 20"...
Dammit Apple!!

i haven't had any problems with rosetta at all on my mac pro, running AE, PS, and Illy at the same time. even 90mb files in PS run supa smooth. definitely get as much ram as you can, that's what'll really help w/ rosetta. i'm very happy with the performance of adobe apps on these intel macs. can't wait for the updates though.

hmmm... I got dual core2 20 inch. and just about to load adobe apps onto it. I got a gig of ram.
So I'm fucked? How does aftereffects run with this rosseta?
Typefaces? will font folio typefaces be read as powerpc files?
