my main question, as a freelance designer and the ups and downs it may take is it a good idea to a file an s-corp or sole P status, etc. ?
what are you guys under? pros/cons.

It's usually a good idea to incorporate, that way if you get sued, you're not personally liable.
It creates a little more paperwork and legal fees but is generally recommeded if you plan on doing it for a while.

make it an LLC.
You will learn that people suck and dont want to pay.
A majority of the people who said they would help you out or throw business your way will dissapear when you start up.
You will find that 50% of your employees just want a paycheck and could care less about you or your business.
Don't undervalue your services and make sure that anyone out there representing you knows that.

i have incorporated as an LLC last november, and let me say for the most part it is a pain in the ass.
always have contracts/agreements and you should be fine. unless you want to hire people, then you should probably incorporate. although, incorporating does make it a lot easier to get loans and the like.
also, get an accountant. maybe a lawyer too. taxes are shit to do.
