is there a way to change the default blue pen lines to another color in illustrator? i'm having to trace something on a blue sky background and its turning into a pain in the ass to see the pen lines.

change the layer color in layers palette.

Right Click Layer, then change colour in properties (ie. where you would edit the layer name)?

can you just fade the blue background?

double click on the layer that you are working on and it will give you a choice of colours. Failing that just make new layer. Each layer will automatically have a new path colour so you don't get confused
