Illus Vs. Photoshop

So I've been using Illustrator more and more lately, really enjoying it and kind of kick myself for doing some of the things I've done more in Photoshop that Illustrator is better for. (I have CS1)
But why can't it more resemble Photoshop as far as menus and such?
One thing I don't much care for is the Transform aspect - why can't there be a simple Flip Horizontal / Vertical like PS?
I also like that toolbar in PS just below the menu bar - am I wrong or is there no such feature in Illustrator?
Finally, big complaint - my scroll wheel doesn't work at all in Illustrator - not at work and not at home. Lame.

you can do most of those things in illy, dig into the menus and set up your workspace the way you want and save it.

Can you dock things within the menu bar at the top?

The "Options Bar" in Photoshop is what I'm talking about.

mg33...everything you are asking for already exist as part of the matrix.
you can use the mirror tool to do the flip verticale or horizontal.
toolbars can be arranged in any placement and saved.
scroll wheel...well you must wait for CS3 or was it PS3 i ferget.

upon opening the illy program the default setting is similar to that of the interface of photoshop with the options bar at the top...its all the same.

My big beef w/ Illy: Why can't you use the down/up arrows to scroll through your fonts (and have it change the selected text) like in PS?
LAME.

My complaint about BOTH programs is why the hell can't I see what the fonts look like in the list like in WORD.
Word that that Adobemaceroni.

The tool menu bar has been moved to the top in Illustrator CS2, just like Photoshop.

I still can't get font previews to work. everything is set correctly and I restarted it.

eh? font previews do work in AI.
just check the font preview box in type prefs.

Preferences > Type & Autotracing > check the box next to "Font preview size"

My biggest beef with illy that they fixed on CS2, is that you used to not be able to control the position of the stroke...outside, inside, center. They had that in option in photoshop for stroking a selection as long as I can remember.

Ah... I see, you have to right click the font and choose font and then you can see it.
I was waiting for it to appear in the font list toolbox.

(Sep 14 06, 10:06)no, change the preference as suggested and the font menu will list as previews under both the menu item and in the type palette.
somethings a miss here?
