say what you like about them, what they've achieved is in one word, remarkable. anybody that slags them off for being overhyped and musically simple are frankly, fucking jealous. my 12 year-old kid thinks they're the bollox, although i don't approve of some their lyrics, and that fuckin' lifestyle they rabbit on about, sound like george formby. saying that, when i was that age i was a madhead. i find myself listening to them when i'm out driving my bristol, they've replaced the rhcp's, but i must say i prefer more chilled out tunes like erykah badu for lounging around in the house with a few girls and that. daft eh?

So what's good then? I'd fucking love to hear it.

(Sep 6 06, 08:20)Step away from the thread, fool.
I think we've all elegantly expressed and defended our "it's crap" summaries. Go back and read them.(Sep 6 06, 08:20)
Ha, you got me, I'd not read them..... Still think they're good...whatever.

It's all a matter of opinions and taste isn't it?
Let's just say the Jam have done it already, and a lot fucking better.

Sorry, but for four lads from Sheffield barely of drinking age , it's a pretty fucking amazing acheivement. Everyone's quick to slag them off because a lot of people are into the band, but no one can argue with the fact that they're a tight outfit with some real lyrical prowess.
I can't stand it when aresey designer types slag off popular music just because they're into 'leftbeat eletronica' or whatfuck. They're one of the best bands to come out of this country for a long time and people need to find a better way of saying they don't like something than saying that 'they suck'.
After all, what the fuck have you haters ever done that comes close to that?
DaveO
(Sep 6 06, 08:11)I've written my own record and a soundtrack.
They still suck.

I couldn't give a stuff how many people like them. They are over hyped and overrated. Their compositions are shite and his voice is terrible.
Absolute pish

I'm offended that you would say that about my post
- jevad0
absolute contrived bullshit

you should know that in pop music terms, Britain is aaaaall about jumping on teh new thing and discarding it as quickly as the next one comes along. Regardless of whether teh albums any good or not, theirs no reason to congratulate anyone for taking the predictable decision to mirror the latest biggest hype...

the considerable thing about the arctic monkeys is that how a band releasing a CD in spring can get a 'best in british' award at the end of summer. this has been very quick. arctic monkeys have been made by word of mouth and not slick marketing tools as suede and pulp in the 90's. i just think it is a considerable event in a conservative country like britain to go with such a climatic choice for album of the year. long make it continue!

All i was doing was pointing out an interesting but cliched response from yourself.
The irony is that you also pointed that out.
Bottlerocket
(Sep 6 06, 07:15)Using the "cliche" is perfectly valid in terms of the rhcp's. And the fact the of the matter is that artists do get worn and tired by the industry, and forced to produce records when they have nothing left to talk about.... hence the cliche is, and always will be valid.

"...Sorry I forgot that only mentioning non commercial bands that only 4 people have heard of..."
(Sep 6 06, 04:48)The Arctic Monkeys are far from undiscovered.

Discovering old music you never knew will always be the best new music you will find...

You have to put Under the Bridge in the context of the album it's on, which is one of the best records of the 90's.

(Sep 6 06, 07:12)agreed. RHCP will always rule, no matter what they continue to release. They don't need to prove anything anymore.
Flea will go down in history as one of the most influential bass players. John frusciante rocks too.
I like that flea and chad smith spend lots of time teaching and doing clinics for young musicians. How many other rocks stars would do that?
