Hi all:
Kinda a dumb question. Been playing around in photoshop trying to get that "distressed" look, and it aint workin for me. Anyone know how to really get that aged/scrathed look similar to those that iso50 uses on so many of his posters?

the more you bring to photoshop the better your artwork will look.
If you sit there just painting in photoshop with various brushes/filters etc then it will look like that's what you have done.
Why spend ages trying to get a fake distressed look in ps when you can just scan in an old piece of paper, or take a photo of a rusty door etc.
My answer to your question, how to create a distressed look: scan or photograph something distressed, simple really.
you can then use that as an image or use is to eat away and mask other images.
You should also ammend all your ps brushes to contain all those available, especially the scrathy looking ones.

I use an "action" called Washing Machine. I forget who makes it but it works well.

What baskerville said is what will work best. Search istockphoto or something similar for images of grunge-like textures that you want, and then apply them to the comp in PS.
To get the look you're after, I have found that the easiest way is usually the best. No need to sit there and paint it by hand with a brush.

i have all 3 washing machine discs if you need them... all about 600MB, so gotta use iChat or Carracho if you don't have an FTP i can drop it on....

brushes, custom brushes my friend

you would probably like to download "paper textures" to suit your needs
- jonnyquest0
you could also download any rust/concrete textures desaturate them in photoshop till they're about a neutral grey and set the layer multiply on the blending mode and place that layer over whatever you want to texturize...
