in my experience, you can't get rid of that "blip" with any amount of div trickery and onload handlers, and it will get more obvious with the addition of more content.
i would suggest trying out the XMLHttpRequest object to load in the bg, which is what AJAX actually is (technically, you've just been playing with some DOM scripting, not actually AJAX).

anyway, without animation it all works OK without a 'blip'. so it is possible, right?

"yeah i found that out later as well.. haha silly me, calling it ajax and shit haha..
i wish i could understand ajax though, i simply don't have the time to figure out that stuff now! MUST get my portfolio online. i am poor now. :(
