I'm just using password on the network drive... its mainly for images and stuff (content for our site) I might need...I wouldnt recommend putting sensitive info on there, but the point of a network drive is to have it available all the time and put selected stuff on it.
Another measure you can take is to only allow access from selected IP addresses, such as your office, or other places you regularly connect from...

also, use manual IPs instead of DHCP, and make the address pool the same number as # of clients you're connecting

And yes,... if other's connect to your network, your Shared Drive is visible to them too.

i saw a news feature a while back, about CDs flaking...
turns out a lot of people who got into CD technology when it first emerged in the 80's are starting to see their collections crack and flake away.
so your CDs could only have a 20-25 year lifespan. should be interesting to see what happens over the next few years.
