a buddy of mine has an interview for a job, he knows most graphic apps but they will test him on quarkexpress:
what are some things to know how to do in Quark, that he should study for, thanks

what kind of company tests you on quark? I wouldn't want a job that didn't trust what I write on my cv, or what I have in my portfolio.
He should brush up on baseline grids, style sheets, justification, odd page layouts, master pages (multiple ones too) etc.

knowing what the the function of all the tools on the long skinny horizontal tool bar do.

There's a big difference between 'knowing quark' and being able to typeset in it.

yuk. Since InDesign came along, I haven't used Quark. I can't imagine having to test on that silly, archaic piece of pooware.
What a clever way to torchure a designer though.
