Okay... so about a year ago... a friend and I were both on a retainer for the same client (with me 'in charge' as it were per the client and the agreement of the friend)...
We jointly purchased a camera. I purchased the 'majority share' of it as it were (I paid for about 4/5's of it and all the gear we bought with it)...
okay... so I won the majority... and I'm going to 'buy him out'...
... but right now we're stuck with a shitty situation.
He (my friend) recently went BACK to a company that I first quit from... then later on contracted for... AND GOT SCREWED BY OVER AND OVER AGAIN...
... now... this company... I HATE... LOATHE... it's rare that I feel this way about anything... but I truly detest them and thier business practices...
... now... he (my friend... part-owner of the camera) wants to use the camera for work on that company.
I bitched a little bit... because of my past with the company... and given the fact that I own 4/5's the majority share of the cam and gear... am I asking 'too much' that he not use the camera for the company?... cuz he's making it out to sound like I have no right to say that I don't think his company gets to use gear that's part mine (the majority of it).

you got a veto, man!
he's gotta get 51% of the shares in order to veto you, so for now he should stfu.
:)
- PonyBoy0
haha!!
I actually said 'VETO'! in our IM conversation too...
... he just doesn't get it...
... I own FAR MORE than 51% of this gear... and it wouldn't even have been purchased if not for my 'majority share'...
... and he can use the damn thing for ANYTHING HE WANTS... except the shitty company he works for... besided... if the company needs a camera and gear so bad... why don't they go buy it themselves?
At the end of the day though... it's a 'respect' issue between he and I...
... he thinks I'm 'dictating' how 'our' gear gets used... I'm merely saying that the company he works for has NO RIGHTS to it... EVER...
... but he can use it anytime... on anything else... anywhere... whenever... just not for the company that put me in a world of hurt (my fault for hanging in with them for so long).

tell him to f-off and try ot come and take it from you.
- PonyBoy0
eh... I love the fella though. :)
I can't tell him to F off... ever.

I know there are always two sides to a story...but I would respect your wishes if I was said friend. Tell your "friend" again you don't want them using the camera for that client.
This could end up ugly. With you losing a friendship over that company you dislike.
- PonyBoy0
I know, mrpt... and I don't want that... and I know my friend doesnt' want that either...
he just says "buy me out"... and I can't just yet... so it's frustrating as hell. To buy him out would set me back $750... not a lot... but money I don't have at this given moment...
fuck... all I'm asking is that our gear don't go to helping those who fucked me over...
... it's not like I'm saying he can't ever use it like I'm being some majority stockholder asshole or something...
... i just want a little respect...
- kyl30
seems fair
- mrpt0
If he's not going to listen to your logic then I would just go ahead and let him use the camera. No matter how much this gets you angry.
Just suck in that pride a little longer and save up to buy him out. Friends can be pricks sometimes. But that's why we love em : )
- PonyBoy0
that's what I've decided to do, mrpt. :)
that's some of the best advice I've ever read on NT... it's not worth losing him as my friend... we just don't see eye to eye... and I'm going to have to suck it up and let it go (easier said than done... wish me luck!)
- Teeuwen0
but still, if he's an employee at this company it is ridiculous. they need to buy or hire their own shit and charge the client or something...............
but yeah, choke it up for now but do ask your friend if he understands your point.
- mayo0
can you put a limit on this? Like give in to let him use it for this particular project he needs it for, but no other projects for that company? That gives him and the company time to buy their own gear and you time to save up and buy him out.
Then ask to borrow his car. When he asks what for, say your taking [name of ex girlfriend who F-ed him over] out on a date.
- joyride0
as a company they should pay you a use fee for basic wear n tear. Teh company should be able to pay that. Then you get the friend and screw them a bit by paying you (or splitting it). That seems most fair to all. You being the silent partner of the equipment can take all the blaim for the fee... oh well
But in the end, its just a camera. keep the friend
- Teeuwen0
haha good one mayo.

when my friend went to work for this company... this company asked him to bring his OWN computer in to use.
... what does that tell you about the company and their willingness to actually even FUCKING BUY GEAR TO DO THEIR JOBS?!!!
thus... the reason I have so much hatred for one of the owners over there... the man fucked me out of thousands... cost me time that I'll never get back etc etc... he even STOLE from one of our joint clients...
... I tell you - this guy has some odd attraction about him (the owner of the company I hate)... because my 'friend' who I'm having this hole issue with actually walked out on the company about two years ago... taking with him some data that the company demanded back... AND EVEN THREATENED HIM W/PHONECALLS FROM AN ATTORNEY until they got back their shit...
... THEN THEY HIRE HIM BACK?
YES!! Because they're desperate and stupid... and my friend was willing to bring in his own gear...
... so fucked up...
... why can't I get this company out of my fucking life?
I actually brought a few of you NT'ers in on this company in the past too... and I'm sorry for it... so ... so ... fucking sorry.
btw... mayo... you're HILARIOUS!!!!! :)
- Teeuwen0
are they called "Studio A" by any chance?
- Teeuwen0

Bring your own fucking computer.
- Teeuwen0

- mayo0
HHahahaa the owner of a place I interned at asked an employee to buy a large format printer so that he (the boss/owner) could rent it from him. HAHAHAhaaa
