Epson vs. Cannon

Hey guys, need a little help making a decision here. I currently have an epson 1280. It treated me right for a while, but now it's just banding problems after banding problems and I can't deal with it anymore. I know at school we had some cannon i9900's and they were sweet from what I remember. Has anyone else used these printers? Recommendations?
Thanks in advance.

I too am looking for a good printer. My old epson stylus 740 is finally giving up.
I'm looking for a printer where I can refill the cartridges myself. I was given an HP but their cartridges are made so you can't do that. Bastards!

salisae, being that i've only used this printer when i was at school, how quick does it eat ink?

I have the Epson r2400. The prints from it blow my mind. But ink and paper is forking expensive. And I don't think you can refill the cartridges, but I haven't researched that option.
The r1800 is another fine printer.

I've got a Epson Photo R800. Great prints, but I had to exchange it (which they quickly sent a new one out, so not a big deal).
The problem I have with it is that I need to occasionally print labels (not often, like every few months) and the new Epsons will not print them (some stupid thing that took about 4-5 hours of their tech support to finally transfer me to a 'upper level' guy - basically it can't tell the difference between them and a CD - stupid).
I ended up buy a all-in-one for labels and faxes.Love the quality. Will think harder next time (this is my 6th or so Epson, first with any problems).
Honestly, I think 2-3 years of printing daily for a $200-300 machine is pretty good. I am averaging about 2 years now (my Photo 960 just died, cost more to replace a print head than to buy a new machine).
