Are there any laws or restrictions about using a photo/scan of a £5 note in online advertising?

Dunno, but you just try scanning it in.... go on.... I bet you can't

apparently photoshop doesn't recognise it as money if you tilt your image 45 degrees so you can work on it then and then tilt it back to print.
Not sure if there are any restrictions on usage though, I don't really see why not though, plenty of flyers use money images etc.

aha... I need to reproduce a banknote for a legitimate reason but how do I do this?
It is possible to reproduce images of banknotes but there are specific guidelines under which this can be done. It is best to refer directly to the Reproduction guidelines that explains the procedure in more detail.

I photocopied a breifcase full of tenners once for a short film, I remember at the time feeling like I was really living life on the edge.

I made black and white photocopies of £ and £10 notes and coloured them in with watercolour pencils, after being worn in in my wallet for a few weeks several of them actually worked in change machines in the arcade, this was when I was at school mind, so I assume technology has progressed since then. Actually, that happened on a day when no matter how hard we tried we could not spend this other stolen money(another story altogether), just kept winning and winning, and then to top it off photocopied notes were working, it was like we had the midas touch.
