hey folks, i have to do a product shot for this website i'm working on. i thought that i had bookmarked a tutorial i saw online a few weeks ago, but i am not finding it. wondering if anyone has any tips, links, etc. for how to properly light an object (wine bottle) for a quick photo shoot. many thanks in advance,

ok, i think you could get something good out of that. For product shoots I like to stick to one light and use a bunch of white, black, gold cards/reflectors depending on what you are after. I'd focus your light onto a surface that will reflect the light onto the wine bottle. that will give you a softer, more even light. If you are wanting to do high key lighting, think richard avedon with people on white backgrounds, you should then use 2 lights, both at 45° pointed to the seemless (cyc) on opposing sides and try to make them 1 1/3 times brighter and be careful to not let it spill onto the back of the bottle or else you'll get some nasty highlights. what mood are you going for? i hope this helps.

thanks so much tad. looking to just get nice smooth reflections on the bottle....more than likely will be removing it from the background, so looking for no drastic reflections on the bootle. again, thanks so much for your help....

go buy large foam board black & white and focus your work lights onto them and reflect that light onto the bottle. keep your bottle a few feet away from the background. light the background if you are going to photoshop it out later. experiment with different setups, but for your camera, use a long lens, 105 & greater (if you can) as well as a small aperature to increase detail on the bottle.
as far as white balance, you can set the white to the white foamboard since i don't know the color temperature of your worklights.
i hope that helps.
