two initial thoughts....
... first off... is the transparency on the 'splash' set up using activeX shit?... cuz I have a feeling that your opeing flash peice isn't transparent on a mac...
... so lose that and make your flash the same for both mac and pc...
... second... I dig the 'old book/paper' deal you've designed as your navigation... but it seems to 'stop' at the imagery... and doesn't continue (as far as animation etc) in the transitions from peice to peice etc...
... if you're going to go all out and use flash... give me some exit and enter transitions... else... goto static imagery - no flash necessary given the 'animation' and the 'motion' in the transitions of your site.
The graphics are nice though.... it's just your use of flash and animation - if you're going to bother w/Flash... go all out and show the book opening... flippling through pages etc...
.. else.. dump the flash and build it as static images. :)

Though I dont enjoy much the aesthetic or structure of the site, these things can be considered subjective.
What I find most distressing about the site and its representation of you and your work, is its tone and choice of representation.
Saying you have "Madd skills" isnt going to convince or even entice a client of anything.
Additionally, get rid of the "Play" section. This is essentially exploiting your youth and inexperience. Every site for a young designer has these sketches and photos and such that are irrelevant overall to the work and its potential to get more work.
This is all, of course, my opinion and in light of the fact that your contact link is soliciting for work – thus indicating that you would like to contract work through this site.

it makes me feel like i am on acid.
i do not know if that is a good or bad thing.

Greed IS ON point today.
Seriously, I know I'm lazy and all but let "me" decide wheter or not you have the "madd skillz". I think you need to lose a bit of the trendz and tighten up a lot of loose points in the site ie" "close" at the top of each portfolio piece. Also things like 1,2,3 don't give me any clue of what I'm about to see.

I'd like to see the ability to turn off the music.

i find it refreshing that you guys are so honest. (picks up balls)
the main thing i wanted to know is what you guys thought about the way i showed my work.
the transparency on the homepage was made using the (w=mode code) i tested it on firefox and developed it using a mac so it should be good to go? i agree on using more flash but i kinda suck at actionscript right now.

Re: Being on Acid Comment
total compiment.

Dont tell people you have madd skills - cuz if you have to tell them you usually don't. I find the way your work is displayed is very distracting - the site complexities overshadows the work and i had to go looking for it - potential employers dont like that.
- acedeuce0
the context behind this site is:
i'm applying to go back to my old art school and only had a week to put my portfolio together. that 'madd skillz' text is a place holder.
i'd like to add thumbnail and page turning effect capability. anyone have tutorial links for those?
- k0na_an0k0
Your typography could be improved upon.
It's a complete different style than that of the imagery.
- acedeuce0
agreed. i got lazy. i'd like to replace all the numbers with thumbnails. anyone know how to do that?

I think the site has some egrat potential. I did notice that the background pattern is from squidfingers: http://www.squidfingers.com/patt…
probably best to create your own since it is always up there. I have seen quite a few people use that same pattern as well which is odd.
the great thing about patterns in flash is they work identical to html backgrounds. You can take a rather small bitmap and use it as a fill to fill in any vector shape. A great way to save file size too.
- mightyj0
I think the font on the pages has been mentioned and I think a different font is needed that fits the theme of the site better. If you are going to do a theme, totally blow it out. I think an employer would like to see your extreme attention to detail.
I also noticed that some of the images look jagged and that is probably because they have either been rotated or scaled. I'd suggest using this line of code on the first frame of actionscipt in your movie. _quality = "BEST"; Hope my responses are constructive.
note: Don't use that script if you are doing things in flash that are processor heavy. It looks like your site will run fine with it set like that though.
- acedeuce0
great comments. thanks for realizing the potential. i'll try that code out and see how it works.
ya i dunno, i really enjoyed that pattern but wanted to add some color.
