You own an advertising company. Would you rather have an average designer and an amazing copywriter or an amazing designer and an average copywriter?

I'd rather have an amazing copywriter and an average designer, sice in advertising the copywriter will often do the ideas and the designer just make it.
All designers in advertising are shit anyway. If they were good they'd be somewhere else

A good designer with good copy writing skills [on concept level] would be my preference...

I'd prefer the best of both. But If you can afford only one, get a good copywriter.

As long as they have a meth problem I don't mind.

Maybe it's not an if/or issue anyways. At the highest levels it's still teams of people. Copwriter, Art Director/Producer pairings or larger, they even tend to hire together if they're successful.

i'd take the best copywriter. designers are all hacks.

nice typography but, monoboy

All great designers are also good writers.

I don't think Duffy prides himself on his writing by any means.

either will result in mediocre execusions.
i think it's harder to find good copy writers, especially good interactive copy writers.

having worked at an ad agency for the past year, i realize how much it sucks. the copywriter and concepts get pushed to you. you rarely get a chance to make design suggestions or a chance to help develop anything you're designing.

don't ad agencies farm out for good design?

(Jul 26 06, 09:13)yeah but when you hit bigger agencies, everything is so specialized, they're not going to hire you for both.
