anyone have experience printing big, like full page image, with raised ink thermography?
- madirish0
no, but i was *this* close away from doing it for an agency i used to work for.
i realize this has no help or assistance in it in any way. i apologize.

well i'll take comfort in knowing someone has at least considered it... i think my printer may think i'm nuts as i'm having them quote a 9x12" area :)

wheres all the designers when you need them?

my main concern is page curl.. i'm working on a 100lb uncoated cover stock.

(Jul 25 06, 11:26)i think NT needs a 5th column for legit design-related discussion.

what is it exactly you're doing? its not going to be exact you know? its basically a powder on tehre tehy melt, liek wax so it's not going to be liek, detailed

what is your page gonna be used for? is it gonna be printed upon after your extravogant thermo? Will it need to go through a printer again? Will it be hung outdoors? how intricate is your design?

I have done a bit of thermography in my day - one bit of advice for doing large coverage areas and page curl - have them put in less thermo powder than normal, this will reduce the cook time and page curl - the raise will be less but I found that is more attractive anyway. any other questions, let me know.

one of the recent issues of frank 151 had the folio printed in thermography. the edges were as sharp as a print would be... i didn't think there would be any distortion.

awesome info from all.. much thx.
it's a catlogue cover on 100lb cover, printed first 4C process and then thermoG ontop. the artwork is quite rough/ sketchy so i'm OK with some imperfections, lost detail and that mottled texture you sometimes get with the raised ink.
spendogg.. great advice. will pass on to the printer.
MLP.. have you seen any online images of this frank 151?

wtf.. my price for full page thermography came in a twice the cost of an blind emboss the same size!!!
i thought thermography was relatively cheap. doesn't make sense to me.

dude that is total whackadoo - price around a bit. the printer you are talking to may have to farm it out, passing the cost on to you.

one of my first jobs was at a thermograpgy printer...what a bunch of smucks..
I did see one cool app for thermo. An entire page printed brown to look like leather.

i don't how to correct, but i would bet you will get paper reaction like curling and coloring - maybe someone can avoid that
