I do mostly design, video and Flash. Some 3D. I am intrigued with a more powerful laptop (gots an iBook right now) as a main work computer that could run Windows too if I had to. Seems like MB Pro would do the job in all areas except 3D.
What are the limitations compared to the powemac towers? I noticed Frontside bus is slower on MB Pro compared to tower which is not good.
Thanks for any opinions on the matter.

Wait a month and get an Intel Mac Pro after they announce them in August at the WWDC
(basically the G5 tower with a new processor and such)

i'd definitely wait and see what happens at wwdc. the mbp's will be getting a nice chip upgrade as soon as the new intel meroms are ready. hopefully apple will give a timeframe as to when that might happen. the new workstations should be nice, too.

I'll wait! I hate getting something and then one month later something cooler comes out for the same price. Maybe I'll jump right on it once the announcement is made.
Thanks.

Actually, they are faster except for one fact. They run programs in Emulation mode. So pretty much you need to wait till Adobe and all those companies release software that has been made for the new chipset.
Right now photoshop actually runs slower on a new macbook than on an old G4 laptop. But when photoshop is released for the Macbook chipset, it will be much much faster than even the G5s.

Hey mate,
I won a mac book pro in australia and its great. having intel chip rather than powerPc is great for many of the upcoming programs that will be released for macs

So every one is always talking about how slow photoshop is on the pros. Here is my question I work pretty much 90% in Illustrator.
I am getting a Macbook Pro for my new job and I am wondering just how slow it is going to run apps like illustrator.
