what are the working hours where you are? in particular id like to know what its like to work in berlin, barcelona and amsterdam.
do you have siestas or is that just an urban myth?

Amsterdam, hmm, well at my studio I'm usually the only one here past 7pm every night.
I think it depends, but overall there isn't the same work ethic as in North America or the UK...people here like the idea of 'enjoying life'
Personally I have yet to figure that concept out...

Yeah, one should presume siestas are for real, yet when you come to the mediterranean for the first time it strikes you that they actually have those and close everything in mid-day..

The market is quite tight, the pay is low.
Some say the best way to live there is to have steady freelance contacts in better-paying countries.

Never lived there longer than a week, that's probably what keeps me thinking it's the best city in the world :)
As for Spanish.. Obviously, the better, the bigger your chances are. I wouldn't try to move there with no Spanish. Just some two weeks ago Crouwel complained nobody spoke English in bcn. On the other hand, I've seen Americans use it in a way that looked fluent to me after 8 months of going to school, in Valencia, so it should come easy to you. Especially, that people there neither ever shut up nor let you stay mute ;)
