Hi all,
I'm working on a corporate identity for a museum, i wondered if anyone has any 'favourite' identity designs for museums around the world? What's the best museum identity in your opinion?
Cheers

i like the tate, not so much the logo, but their overall brand is quite good.
Then there's MOMA...
V&A...
Natural History Museum...

Type choice is crucial, imo. I liked that Paris museums used quite modern fonts nicely:
Centre Pompidou - all flavors of DIN
Musee d'Orsay - Rotis (afair)
Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie - ConduitToo bad that they don't keep it consistant online.

i liked this site when it was first launched... still do.
might help, might not...

i've always loved anything MoMA has done.

have you noticed no-one has mentioned the design museum? it's not that it's bad is it, but as a memorable brand, it doesn't come to mind...

wow Vespa guess we have a real difference in opinion!! (funny that we posted at the same time saying completely opposite things)
The images and colour used by the DM is really vivid and very (dare I say it) "Modern"

personally I never really liked that design museum illustration stuff, looked like someone just booked an illustrator that was 'trendy' at the time. Also, I find the design museum type in teh logo to be atrocious and their new site is a mess for want of a better word.
that's right, the design museum - a mess. lol @ that.

i do like the colourful imagery, it's just the logotype that has never stood out for me. bland in that modernist way that seems ever so slightly dated now, ironic considering the point of (neo)modernism is to be above style.
i guess it was made that way so that it would always work with any imagery, but for me the barbican does that but it also does it with it's own voice.

I have never been that fond of the logo type, but the brand in its entirety I feel works well and is still strong.
When it was first launched I saw this as a starting point and was looking at the brand to develop and grow, it hasn't done this so much but what it has done is raised the profile of The DM and given it a unique identity which that easily recognisable.

I'm going to defend the typography... um... don't know why... just really like that font... new website is vast improvement too... the Design Museum is always just a little... disappointing

Design Mmuseum is also too expensive in my opinion, it's like what - £7 and it takes about half an hour to look around?
depends on the exhibition I guess, the Saul Bass was great as was the designer of the year 04, others have been weak.
