see it bugs me that the real creative talent beghind this ad is hardly even mentioned.
Congratulating Psyop for this ad is like saying Johnny Depp's to thank for Pirates...
- level2b0
I wonder how much they charged for it.. great spot!
- forcetwelve0

caulfied... you're saying that Pirates would suck w/out, Johnny... right? :)
the commercial is beautiful - congrats psyop! I'm like a silly inspired kid now... i'm not sure if it's because the commercial's overwhelmed with 'all the good things of childhood' (bells, smiles, pretty colors and big toys)...
... or if it's because it's 'magical' in feel... all tingly and unreal... either way I want to drink a coke and make something cool.

"Happiness Factory" is an ironic title for a Coca-Cola commercial considering the attention the company has received for their anti-union activities and human rights violations in their bottling plants in South America.
What better way to present yourself as a good-natured, joy-inciting company than through Psyop's quirky animation style.
From The Nation:
http://www.thenation.com/doc/200…"On the morning of December 5, 1996, union leader Isidro Segundo Gil was standing at the gate of the Coca-Cola bottling plant in Carepa, Colombia, when two paramilitaries drove up on a motorcycle and shot him dead. A week later, unionists say, paramilitaries lined up all the workers inside the plant and forced them to sign a letter resigning from the beverage union SINALTRAINAL, spelling the end of the union at the plant."

cafloppy,
go take a nap, my friend... when you wake up... if the world isn't over - I'd like to buy you a coke...
... and keep you company.
- cafloppy0
Sounds like fun. Do you think we can make some time to bury our heads in the sand?
- level2b0
We wanted to bring in Psyop for an Amex project we're working on, they were about $950k over our budget. Haha..

Enter response:well - i suppose we should all boycott coke, send angry email to QBN for sharing the spot w/us... and ask pysop to donate all the money they've every made from anything 'coke' to one man's family in columbia - because you obviously think everyone that has anything to do with coke was in on it...
... including psyop, and all the artists etc (you know - the actual reason for the thread... not for you to take up your own cheap little politcal soap box and whine about some corporate conspiracy against humanity).

(Jul 16 06, 19:34)//Well you know you might just be on to something PonyBoy!
Cafloppy, I'm glad there's another voice around speaking up. Diverse opinions are good for the brain.
PonyBoy - my man let him say it, try and be a little even handed sometimes and not shoot your mouth off.
- cafloppy0
Ponyboy,
I sincerely apologize. It was presumptuous of me to suggest that you might have your head buried in sand when clearly its placed squarely up your ass.
Where in my previous post did I suggest we boycott Coke (not an altogether easy feat given its strong-hold in restaurants, universities, workplaces, etc) or that we should ask Psyop to "donate all the money they've every (sic) made from anything 'coke' to one man's family in columbia?" And where did I say anything about how I "obviously think everyone that has anything to do with coke was in on it..."
Through sheer inductive reasoning, you've drawn conspiratorial conclusions from my post and insinuated that I am pointing the finger at "all the artists." I've done no such thing. Though, there is evidence to suggest that your sticking your head up your own ass is not all that difficult given the lack of any perceivable brain.
I merely pointed out the absurdity of a commercial entitled "Happiness Factory" that depicts a magical world where Coke bottles are so joyously manufactured. I know the real world is a downer.
Or should we come to Newstoday without criticism? Or rather, should we reserve criticism for aesthetics alone and pretend Good Design and Bad Design exist in vacuums, absent of social consequences?

perhaps you shouldn't turn a thread about an obvious high-five to the artists involved in a commercial into something political...
... you didn't catch on the first time I said it - I doubt you'll care now...
... but then again - proof that you're obviously serious enough for the rest of us resides in your comment:"Sounds like fun. Do you think we can make some time to bury our heads in the sand?"
when YOU go 'shooting your mouth off' like that - what the hell kind of response do YOU expect?
and ants... just as much as cafloppy has a 'right to go shooting his mouth off'... I do too.
cafloppy missed the entire point of the thread and shit on the commercial in a political manner... one in which is very 'silly' and directly related to 'Columbia'... which I hate to say isn't exactly under any real quality government or political control to begin with. I read the Nation article which was obviously one-sided and OBSOLUTELY WACKY in some of it's reporting and what they 'chose' to report on... 'conspiracist' to say the least. There isn't any proof that Coke has or hasn't done anything - just a shitload of talk... according to your article and the writer of the article.
... which leads me back to my original sarcasm toward your stupid post... wtf do you want 'us' or psyop to do about the 'message' of coke's commercial? this thread had NOTHING TO DO with people having their 'heads buried in the sand about the truth about Coke's production'...
... NOTHING POLITICAL 'till you showed up...

all big biz is corrupt but they got the budgets to back a project like ike this up so... what can you do? its like the church paying for all the paintings back in the day
