"I know the vinyl purists are all over it saying that it's a cop out but I don't know a designer who doesn't like a bit of technology."
Well, let me introduce myself. I am a designer whom hates technology...
The first time i saw anyone perform a set off a laptop was Coldcut. I mean if i closed my eyes, I would have been really impressed, but never-the-less, I have seen other 2 man crews kill what they did, just with vinyl and maybe a DAT...
I have one live session with shadow, cut Chemist and Numark, just using 3 MPC's called 'pushin' buttons' even that was kinda lame, doing something different for the sake of doing something different...

well whatever...you're still fucking it up each time you use it

@Meeklo

a 303's not a drum machine.
- khilled0
meeklo you rule. you were the guy who hooked me up with some good vj stuff in another thread and you've done remixes for coldcut? serious? slick dude.
by the way i can't hear anything because the audio is disabled here at work but i'll check back on my own comp. i'll have a tonne of new shit soon and i'll keep yall informed

but that has little to do with high resolution audio.

(Jul 13 06, 14:17)but i think those focused on ever higher bit depths and sample rates are a subset of what i would define as the audiophile, which is one who is simply obsessed with the reproduction of sound. i liken that subgroup to the weight weenies of the bicycle world, or those that sacrifice the feel of the ride in the name of reducing the weight to an absolute minimum. great reference monitors have that wow factor when you first lay ears upon them, but they're actually quite fatiguing for long periods of casual listening. among my engineer friends, the most sought after gear is loved for the musicality of it's flaws. anyway, i digress. you've got some good points, meeklo.

oh gear for sale gear for sale.
i've got a 909 for sale, if someone wants to make me an offer? serious inquiries only, please.
also an e-mu e4xt with maxed out RAM and a hard drive. i'll even throw in an adaptec pci scsi card.
and an oberheim matrix 6r. any takers?
and a roland mc202. that's actually a really cool little machine, especially if you like whale sounds.
and lastly there's an sh101 in grey up on the block. unfortunately, i don't have the keytar neck extension for it.
oh and this is a longshot, but an adat xt? super low miles. it can expertly hold a door open for you.

"whom hates technology..."
technology is generally plastic crap that happens to be about 30 years behind its own marketing.
might as well stick with state of the art, even if it's merely the cure for the belt drive.
all bullshit aside, mixing on a laptop or cd rack is fine and definitely has its pros, but seems to be better suited for some back room and not center stage.
...wasn't a big fan of pushin buttons either, though shadow's live sets do tend to make my panties wet.

Never Djd in my life, never owned a single record, but I have been producing since 95

DnB is so hard to program...i'm stuck in boom bap mode.

komkrktprod

this shit looks cool

I dabble in it...but my best clients are DJs...
I think its because we do the same thing, just with differnt mediums.
- khilled0
yes it's the big thing with me these days...looking to produce shit with visuals and vis a versa, producing stuff to mix live and making video to vj etc. i don't separate music and visuals in many ways, it's my creative aspiration for real

(Jul 13 06, 16:26)I agree with you..
don't get me wrong, that's why I rather use my old speaker system over high end monitors..:)

I dabble in producing, i've played bass for 14 years, guitar for 10 and piano for 3 years. I think music, art & design all go hand in hand.
Thanks to math.

a 303's not a drum machine.
emphor
(Jul 13 06, 16:17)an MC 303...
yeah it can do more than a regular drum machine, but really the only good thing there is the drum kits..
- acescence0
the problem i have with digital sources is the quality of the high end- it's really sharp and painful at high volumes, especially on systems with horn loaded tweeters. vinyl is smoother in the tops and doesn't sound like a serrated knife in your ear drum.
- Meeklo0
acescence..
seeing your long list of gear for sale, I have 2 options. You quit making music..
You are moving to software based..
is there a 3rd?
:)
