being familiar with both Quark & Illustrator, the learning curve was fairly intuitive for me. Most other questions were solved by the help site.

visual quickstart is good for having around as a quick reference and i'll also recommend the adobe classroom in a book series.. you can usually sell this for what you paid for it as well.

Been using almost a year...slightly painful coming from Quark...but now that I know it, will NEVER go back.
Just jump in there and learn it by self experience, the best way.

when i lived in SF there were InDesign classes nightly at the university on golden gate
it's just the professors moonlighting, but they're good
