design with pen and pad first if you haven't done so already.

the house image looks scary and demonic or someone is going to be killed kind of scary house.
the hammer logos looked like you had fun making it but to turn my neck to read it didnt work out for me.
the ear with comicbook speed lines to show movement of sound also didnt work.
instead of using black try a range of colours. also try to use a colour next to another colour instead of the backgrond white and foreground black and lite blue.
dont use too much iconography elements to sell your idea, another person wont grasp the feeling you want to give and they may use the image as a negative.
keep it simple and minimal. and demand a ton of cash for the work.
:)

Thanks for the input...i'm not feelin the house either. I'm trying to think of diifferent ways to show sound/movement of sound.
my first and main concern with the home improvement stuff...was "Tool Time" and trying to not make it look like that.
Again, anyone else feel free to time chime in..i'll re-post something later...

get out the sketch pad. there is an idea there with the hammer but you haven't quite found it yet.

Keep it simple. Communicate more with less. Those won't print very well or transfer to screen, Too busy.
First you need to concentrate on the one thing you wish to communicate, then reduce it down to it's simplest form.

Oops, copy and pasted wrong URL...

What sucks though...is that I have no background at all about either company. I have no idea what kind of style they like or dislike.
These logos are kind of my in...into this company.
- grunttt0
request a brief. maybe they're testing you to see if you'd try to design a logo with no background?
- Dancer0
I would hate your job, where's the communication. Say something fer christs sake

Send them this link...

the hammer with the slab serif foot is nice.
try basing your design off of that. right now everything is much too busy.

you cannot design a strong logo without more (some, any) information
tell them you can't do your job without some background
is this a freelance gig or what's the situation?
- rodzilla0
Situation is this...had an interview yesterday for a graphic design position. I am unable to come work for her a couple days of week because of my current working situation and she wanted to see more work from me.
She gave me two clients' names and asked me to create two logos. Of course I will not send her native files. She also said if the client picked mine I would be compensated.

I would say to head to the Brathaus for a legal joint....that will give you the inspiration you need. That is were I got mine when I went to BG.
- blastofv0
if those are active projects at her studio, then she's taking advantage of you
either she should hire you, or she should pay you for your time, whether the logos are selected by the client or not
she's sucking you in to spec work, and that's bullshit
either way though, you need more info

he he rodzilla has to be the best name on NT at the moment :D
I like the solid black hammer one on the peft and also the outline of a person top right but I think the outine one needs a bit of work also the solid hammer one needs work but defiantly good strong ideas :)
- rodzilla0
Well...i'm in between a rock and a hard place. my current job is god awful and I haven't been given too many opportunities for graphic design positions.
The brathaus does sound like a goodplace to think of some abstract ideas. MMM legal joints.
Thanks for input all keep it comin...

noteri_ when did you graduate? did you graduate from the GD program? Just finished up in december with a vct degree...
- Rand0
for hafner, I would just simplify to an H/hammer combo, skip the other initials
- johndiggity0
the only one with some promise i see is the hhi with the claw forming the one side of the h (the one witout any description). it's a very intersting letterform. i'd try to develop that direction a little further and see what you come up with. start sketching.
