aye hench, guilty as charged. Half swiss too though.
It's not about "anyone but" that is pretty much joc(k)ular, with me in any case.
But be honest, they've not convinced throughout the tournament. The belief that they could win was over optimistic at best. The press have a lot to answer for in that instead of adopting a "let's enjoy ourselves" attitude it has been "we can relive the glory of '66 but beat Gerry on his own turf like we did in '45" and similar. The commentary has been woefully biased and even in games where England haven't been playing they continually have had to draw obtuse reference to Engerlund
and how they would wipe the pitch clean. Were it not for the press and certain politicians trying to incite Scots to support England I'm sure many Scots would. After all most Scots football fans follow the premiership as opposed to the Scottish leagues.End of the day it's just a game and taking it so seriously is why "our" schadenfreude is so great.
Scotland will never qualify for the world cup ever again anyway so that argument is moot ;)

MX, I knew you were scottish before I even checked your website. You are all sore against the england team because we are so much better than you.
So many scots have said they wanted "anyone but england to win". Its pretty sad.
If england got knocked out and scotland were still in (if they were good enough to even qualify) 95% of england would support them.
You only have to look at your website to see how much of a moron you are anyway
: D

true wildflower.
try sitting through the commentating here and you'd empathise entirely though.

bit harsh there emecks
- MX_OnD0
ach who cares.
As long as we get decent commentating again on the BBC and no more of this damn whining.
England had no chance from the begining if they were honest, they were over hyped to the extent of having expectations beyond capabilities heaped upon them.
Was Sven to blame? Not alone
you cannot just blame the manager when the team fail to perform, when Beckham's celebrity is the only thing that keeps him in the team, when Rooney's temper inevitably gets him red carded, when Lampard puts the ball past the net AGAIN, when all of the team are more interested in their Toni&Guy trolley dash than in their football.Good riddance to the worst playing most over hyped team there, they had no chance of winning and in their hearts they knew it.

respect to Bekham though. He's stepped down as England captain knowing full well that that will make it easier for the next England manager to drop him. He's too slow on the right side and he knows it.

yeah well for England he was SHIT

actually, I feel a lot of sy,pathy towards england for theri heartful game..
but there was none of that to see this wc
so I'm glad they're out.

Rooney blew it for the team, but overall.. with all of those all-star players, they just can't play together. Not once did they look like a threatening squad this entire cup.
That comment before about Beckham was harsh, if it weren't for him they would have never made it this far. I've watched Becks play all year for Madrid and his assists were key in almost every win. I blame Sven, he couldn't get those guys to play together.

Rooney shows his true colours again. Sure he has passion, but he shows it with agression

Good riddance!... take all your deadbeat fans with ya... you've soiled the homeland enough as it is.

football's always been a team game, we were doomed from the start when rooney was left to fight the portugese defence on his own. Beckham's injury and Rooney's subsequent send off showed how strong the rest could pull together in their absence. they didn't let any goals in, but they lacked the attacking front which would have got them through. Crouch did a good job but doesn't have the killer instinct Owen or Rooney have when they score. Better luck next time...

i think they've learnt how destructive Beckham is to the overall makeup of the team. The team looked so much more dynamic when he was off and Lennon came on.
Commentators kept saying it was cos they were down to 10 men. But it wasn't, it was cos Lennon was on for Beckham
