A few weeks ago a fairly well known studio in London had me in for an afternoon of freelance work; but payment wasn't discussed until after that day was finished (yeah, my bad, should have established that first, i guess). A purchase order was to be sent to me so that I could invoice them, and so on. But, it's been two and half weeks, no purchase order, I've been sending emails, the guy doesn't respond. Can't get him by phone either. Worried I'm not going to get paid. What would you do?

Go down in person and sort it out.

Pay them a visit in person. You know where their office/studio is and try and speak to the accounts people if they have them.
If this doesn't work, torch the place!

Go to office - Go postal on them - get money.
If they're not answering and it's easy to visit the premises the answer seems reasonably straightforward to me.

like people said, go down there and if they're being awkward then name and shame them!

Exactly what I was gonna say. Name and Shame if they don't pay their way.
"...act like you'ave got a pair" goddamit.

two and a half weeks?
I'd say they'll probably tell you that their payment terms are between 30 and 90 days, and to please stop bothering them.
2 weeks is nothing!

Definately invoice them now. After a few weeks talk direclty to accounts payable and find out what there payment terms are.
2 and a half weeks is nothing. They may have apolicy where they don't pay vendors for anywhere from 30 to 90 days, not uncommon.
If you have trouble with pay, don't harrass the person who hired you - harrass Accounts payable - they will be used to nagging and having to nag but will probably have no say as to whether you work for them again. In the end they are the ones who will get you your money.
