could anyone point me in the right direction for mac touch screen development? i'm looking at 2 - 42" plasma touch screens with the dev in flash/MDM studio. any write ups anywhere that might solidify my proposal and make sure that i'm not promising functionality that can't be delivered?

touch screens are just your interface. instead of a mouse you touch the screen. So the functionality is not really tied to the interface. Usability is, but functionality... not really.

so what you're saying is that i just set the mouse click (a finger touch) to 1-click instead of double clicks, then the rest is up to the interface in flash?

fight for the future!

someone already is... no need to double up

(Jun 14 06, 06:10)it'd be an interface built in flash to navigate through sections of a project. one screen would be the navigation and the other would be the visuals for that section.

oh... seems like all will be ok to me from a flash side. You need to look into how to set up the flash exe accross the 2 monitors. which shouldn't be too hard. Same as a dual monitor setup. If you don't already have a dual monitor setup, great time to ask for 1. how can you test it if you don't have a real world test environment

Something we found when doing a recent project is that using the touch screen is not the same as a mouse. There is no dragging. Meaning if you have functionality where you need to drag a window around - no go. The interface needs to work of single click events so some of the controls like a draggable volume control needed to be reworked to a + and - type of thing.

a touch screen comes with a driver, where you can set for example that one touch is either like a mouse click and release instantly or it is the mouse pressed (and released when you release the touch), or you can set the mouse button the touch is valid for (so left or right)
so in flash you can use it the same way than a mouse.
BUT not all of the Touchscreen Drivers support multiscreens.
is it right, that one screen is only touchscreen and the other only display?

(Jun 14 06, 06:41)correct, as far as i know. I just received part of the proposal on this and didn't want to promise functionality that can't be done between flash and Zinc, nor did i want to bid it out too low if it's going to be a pain in the ass. it seems that the touchscreen itself probably won't be an issue then, so that's huge.
thanks all :)

I believe, at least on windows its in how you set up the touchscreen. I know at least in the windows interface I can drag icons n stuff around. Hang on i'll double check from a flash player standpoint. gimmie a minute

well, the client wants it working on a mac, so the monitors will be easy to arrange. i don't think we'll need to drag anything. pretty simple interface. a virtual keyboard and touch of a finger to click movie clips and such.

yeah all good, you should be ok with whatever.
