bottom line is intelligent design is being used by the religious right in this country to replace the teachings of evolution in the public classroom because eveolution counters a lot of christianity's teachings.
that's a fucking fact.

The day after the Senate vote, USA Today reported that “the number of active-duty soldiers getting divorced has been rising sharply with deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq.” The divorce rate among Army enlisted personnel since 2003, the year of the invasion of Iraq, is up twenty-eight per cent. For officers the increase is seventy-eight per cent. Perhaps this, rather than the imaginary threat of same-sex marriage, is something that the President should look into.

do you refute what Johndiggity says, flagellum?
be honest now.

And your opinions on ID are based on misinformation and a lack of examination of the actual evidence.
Why don't you start reading some papers. And then we can have a productive discussion. Start with this one maybe:

rember when flagellum said the biblical slaves were "just like family manbers"?
answers don't preceed questions god boy.

oh, it's true. and it's true because the underlying theory that powers creationism and intelligent design is the assumption that there is a god.
based on this, tell me how the teachings of intelligent design in a united states public school setting could even be considered, given the laws barring religious teahings in public educations

When the dying Darwinian tradition can explain:
1. Digital Code along the spine of the DNA molecule & the generation of CSI in the genome.
2. Interlocking machinery in the cell which requires all of it's parts simultaneously to function.
3. A fossil record which shows the sudden appearance of fully formed, novel body plans without precursors.
4. Human consciousness and reason.
5. The fine tuning of the cosmological constants.
6. etc... etc...
...I'll believe it.

In 1987, the US Supreme Court struck down a Louisiana law that mandated teaching 'creation science' in schools because the premise of the research was based on biblical texts. As intelligent design does not draw directly from biblical sources, Christian fundamentalist groups have seized on it as a possible way to force creationism back into the classroom. Last October, a school board in Dover, Pennsylvania, voted to include intelligent design in its local curriculum. And similar plans are now being considered in at least six states including Kansas, Mississippi and Arkansas. These plans include giving teachers new guidelines, and placing stickers on biology textbooks that question the scientific status of evolutionary theory.
Flagellum has successfully put lipstick on his pig and is now taking her to the prom.

johndiggity, the bottom line is that we should follow the evidence wherever it leads. I don't care which political party is excited or intimidated. Just follow the evidence. And the evidence demonstrates that the Civil War era Darwinian paradigm is unscientific. We now know that Natural Selection + Random Mutation cannot generate biological novelty. The more we examine these systems the clearer it becomes that there are hallmarks and relics of a designing intelligence.
Does it surprise you that people of faith would be excited about this? I mean, c'mon.

Discipler, I can jump to the logical end too. Show me the scientific evidence of the "designer" or produce the actual designer, (Is he/it hiding out there someplace?)
Then I'll believe it.
