im looking at getting a TFT (or whatever the current technology is) monitor at work.
iv always used CRT monitors and only ever used LCDs on pc laptops.
IMO, CRT offer a far crisper picture especially when looking at text. LCD tends to blur the edges of everything.
im looking for suggestions, brands, tech specs etc etc.
does anyone have anything to say about this?
blah.

LCDs are crisper at the pixel level than CRTs, imo - I've never felt them to be more blurry as you say.
The important difference is the colour-matching. LCDs tend to be much brighter/whiter/bluer (again, imo), which is significant with print work, but less so with web/digital.
Everyone raves about the Apple monitors as well as LaCie's offerings, however, if you can't afford them, Dell's widescreen monitors *can* be good.
My Dell 2005fpw had to be sent back three times before I got one that wasn't completely rubbish, but even so - it's not perfect.
However, I just appear to have been unlucky - most other people seem happy with theirs.
Dell's 24" widescreen doesn't appear to suffer from the problems of the 20"ers.

Just left back my loved 19" NEC CRT, and get the Samsung Syncmaster 913...
Fine at native res. No eye fatigue. No headaches (after many hours at work). Nice colour gest...
Take a time to config the thing, and is going to work well for you...

Minimum 17"

(Jun 12 06, 04:20)unlike CRT, LCD has one native res, and the rest will look like blurry garbage.

my friend has the dell 2005fp and loves it. he just had to calibrate it and it works well. i'm personally looking at getting a viewsonic vx2025vm. ive seen it for about $300 with rebate which i don't think is too bad for a 20in widescreen.

I heard the Formac's were very good. colour was good as well, hence why they have stopped deveoping CRT's (that and cost/demand) but they are one of the industry leaders...

pooomoo,
i just had to deal with this issue last week, just bought this screen
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obido…19" wide, the quality is amazing, so far i'm in love, if you don't get the wide version or get the new issue, you will get a 5ms one, but i can't complain with the 8ms, no real difference,

How often this thread appears and how little the search function is used!
Bang for buck, it's hard to go wrong with Dell. CRT vs. LCD - once you get used to the difference, you'll not go back.
New cheap Dell 20"ws with 5ms rt soon to be released..

"LCD tends to blur the edges of everything." - I've found the exact opposite.
the main stated downsides with LCDs are contrast and colour calibration, but they're not 'absolute negative downsides' just slight ones, for the hardcore accurate printers out there - if you're digital, you really won't notice/care.

Hmm. Clearly, I did not distinguish your *bump from the original posting, which is a shame because I just came up with an ascerbically witty, cutting riposte for your post there - I'd've been the darling of the Friday NT ball.
Never mind, I've added it to my OneNote list of Ascerbically Witty, Cutting Ripostes for use on NT. Look out for it in an early-morning post, somewhere in the future on an LCD near you!
That said, you'll notice I did help nonetheless. I'm good that way.

Aye you did help.
All I want is a 21 inch, wide TFT for £200.Is it possible?

I'd by a CRT but it seems no one sells them.

our main printer now offers online proofing and color approval only on apple cinema displays--they even provide the calibration devices
