So I accidentally changed the name of the user catalog in my system and it f-ing erased everything. No warning or anything, everything is GONE that I had in user specific folders (basically everything). How fucking great. It was like changing the name of a folder, click once and name changes, and boom, EVERYTHING gets deleted. Goddamn son of a btich motherfucking cunt, I can't believe I lost it all over a fucking accidental namechange.
I firewired it up to another mac, the files are ALL gone, I set the username back to the old one but nothings changed. Is there any way I can get this stuff back?
Oh and by the way, if you were around here yesterday - 'm sentenced to 1500 EUR in fines for planting a fake bomb on the nicest restaurant in town btw. HAPPY WEEKEND TO YOU TOO!

could be worse.

I have constantly had problems with my OSX installs too.
- davey_g0
Shit man, you got charged for the fake bomb? What a crazy ass story. that was..

That's it, I've had nothing but trouble. Just ordered a Vaio.
3 week old PB17 for sale, all the goodies w/ 7200 hard drive and improved res. Any takers?

No offence and I'm sorry for your lose, but it aint OSX... it's the user.
- jox0
Normally I would agree, but when you can delete an insane amount of files with ONE click, its not the user.

hmmm... accidental fake bomb, accidental deletion of files.... i'm starting to see a pattern here....

The wonderful thing about OSX is that it is UNIX, the best operative system in the world, its the stuff that allows you to leave your computer on for months and so on. whatever apple added to it goes from nice looking to mediocre to downright dangerous.
jox, post your problem on the apple infoboards, you might be able to get it back. be nice so they dont delete your thread. This reminds me of an old safari bug that deleted your home folder, but that was a long time ago.
- jox0
turosatano, thank you - I will do just that!

Pulling something like that in the US these days would probably get you life in prison.

jox, dont let that machine get you crazy.
wanna do dual pb smash up?
- grunttt0
sorry jox (pb and fine) that sucks.
- barbtastic0
can't blame the os if you are too big o' tard to run it
- jox0
i know version, but in my defence i didnt make it, i just run the business. honestly, i don't have the energy to care.

i've said once, and ill say it again, macs are great when they work, horrible when they don't.

can't you use data recovery software? i am sure the data is still there even if the file that points to it is shredded... follow? good luck...
and i agree, osx sux.
- version30
yeah,
i wasn't poking jox, just wanted to say it this time before i forgot again
sorry about your luck on the box
studderine said it like it is, sadly enough :(
- jox0
i know you weren't, sorry v4 - im just in a real crappy mood.
i've had bad experience in data recovery software before, especially word documents and such, they all seem to come back corrupt : /

I get user profile errors from time to time and can't save any of my files.
