jevad, I saw a job description for the financial place you used to work at and it said something like: we we're web 2.0 long before it was a buzzword.
I just thought it was amusing for some reason.

web2.0 is nothing but a marketing term depicting the idea that we've somehow upgraded the interweb.
it gives companies a chance to resell ideas that failed miserably 5 years ago.

thanks for that Emily Chang link, Ex. Interesting stuff there.
It is hard not to eye roll when one says web 2.0...its a bit silly...however i think that the technology that is being used is pretty exciting. Remember when Flash first hit the scene, everyone had a crazy splash page and the animation looked pretty much the same as the next...
I think people copy stuff to better understand it; the good designers rise above and do interesting things...maybe we're just really getting to that place where we will see an aesthetic separation. I'm hoping.

(Jun 8 06, 12:46)Exactly.
Don't get me wrong. Gmail, Google Talk, Ruby on Rails, etc rock my face off. But when we have High Def web-based TV available on a large scale, then you can talk to me about 2.0.
Don't even get me started on the net neutrality stuff. Please. The internet is still in its infancy.

web 2.0 is a a pure marketing exercise to get companies to spend more on web dev.
in a nutshell web 2 is they way users have changed to use the web (community, RSS etc) and the way technology is advancing to improve the user experience(AJAX RUBY etc). all of the web 1.1 - 1.9 has been happening over the last few years we just didnt get a badge for it.
At least it keeps the future bright for those in teh industry

man was i pissed off when you designer types started putting flash splash pages on everything. what a worthless self-centered bullshit trend that was.
otherwise, it is interesting to see what people are coming up with. but don't be fooled. everything that coming out has a lot more to do with public acceptance than technology.
All this 'ajax' stuff was possible 5 years ago and there was actually plenty of it built into some of the bohemoths out there. But the general public wasn't ready for it.
Now, as teachers are fighting to get laptops out of the classroom and internet access has become what having a phone once was, it makes sense to start building smarter sites that are more than just digital brochures.
But keep that interest with a grain of salt. It takes a lot of really bad ideas and poor execution before good ones get a chance.
