your hosting company should support mySQL - if not I would get outta there.

well i found both wordpress and moveable type to just be too annoying. the simplicity yet excessive control of txp is what drew me to it..
they all have their pros and cons though

anyone make a portfolio with this?
- kerus0
i use it as a cms tool. still putting everything together. takes a while to get used to it all.

nice! thanks

can i use textpattern to content manage simple text (.txt) files.
i.e. edit them and save them on my ftp?
that's basically what it does right?
sorry to be a dunce.

i am in the process of making a portfolio with TP and so far it is working great. many good plugins to choose from as well.
ive heard it is harder to customize than wordpress and some of the others BUT i have to say the best thing about TP is the support from other users. other TP users are extremely helpful when it comes to answering questions on the forum.

I hope you meant to say "bloggaz"

i'm gonna sound really dumb here but...
what is mySQL and why do i need it?
- kerus0
hist: yeah definitely a little more work to tweak it out but you end up with something much more personal looking that the typical blog-like crap.
and the txp forumers are very helpful, agreed

i use www.wordpress.com and it rocks as well. Very fun, very powerful, and I've learned a lot about php/mySQL just by playing around with it.
One day I am going to try textpattern just to compare the two. I'm actually thinking about redesigning my folio site with one of these blog engines underneath the hood so that way its easier to update. Good idea? Bad idea?

because it's yourSQL
